Single-molecule dynamics of semiflexible Gaussian chains
A semiflexible Gaussian chain model is used to determine the statistics and correlations of single-molecule fluorescence resonant energy transfer ~FRET! experiments on biological polymers. The model incorporates a persistence length in a Rouse chain and describes single-chain dynamics with normal modes. The hydrodynamic interaction is included in the dynamics of the semiflexible Gaussian chain ...
متن کاملDynamics of discrete semiflexible chains under dihedral constraints: analytic results.
Here we consider the dynamics of semiflexible polymers subject both to angular and to dihedral constraints. We succeed in obtaining analytically the dynamical matrix of such systems by extending the formalism developed by Dolgushev and Blumen [J. Chem. Phys. 131, 044905 (2009)]. This leads to a set of Langevin equations whose eigenvalues determine many dynamical properties. Exemplarily, we disp...
متن کاملSemiflexible chains under tension
A functional integral formalism is used to derive the extension of a stiff chain subject to an external force. The force versus extension curves are calculated using a mean-field approach in which the hard constraint u(s)51 is replaced by a global constraint ^u(s)&51 where u(s) is the tangent vector describing the chain and s is the arclength. The theory quantitatively reproduces the experiment...
متن کاملMolecular Dynamics Simulation of Potassium Chloride Melting(.I. Microcrystal Simulation and Sample Size Effect)
The effect of sample size on the melting parameter of simulated potassium chloride microcrystal is investigated by molecular dynamics simulation. The size of microcrystal is varied from 8 to 4096 ions. The increase in melting temperature with sample size was found to be in good agreement with the theory.
متن کاملSemiflexible polymer solutions. I. Phase behavior and single-chain statistics
We study the thermodynamics and single-chain statistics of wormlike polymer solutions with Maier–Saupe-type interactions using self-consistent-field ~SCF! theory. The SCF equations are derived using a systematic field-theoretical approach which yields the SCF equations as the lowest order approximation, but permits fluctuation corrections to be incorporated. We solve the SCF equations using the...
